So… finished the first draft of Rome: The Art of War (book IV in the series). It’s not done. It’s not ready to send to my editor for the real work of editing, but there are 116,000 words all more or less in the right order with the ideas in skeletal form. If I get hit by a meteorite tomorrow, someone else will be able to rescue it and form a book. They’ll have to work hard at deciphering my comments to self in square brackets, and doubtless the end result wouldn’t be what I have in my head, but it would be readable.
Not that I’m planning to stand under a falling meteorite, you understand, but it always helps to have a fallback of who you’d like to write the book.
Once, it was Andrew Grieg, author of the amazing ‘That Summer’ and endless other excellent books. Then it was Patricia Finney, the only writer I’ve ever read who actually does understand the dreaming. She doesn’t call it that, but still…
Now… If Robert Wilton were free, he’d be outstanding ; ‘The Emperor’s Gold‘ is still one of my all time favourite books, and as a debut, was quite astonishing. But if he’s not available, or even if he is, AL Berridge would be just perfect. I’m mid-way through, ‘Honour and the Sword’ and it’s the perfect historical novel: thoughtful, funny, intelligent, insightful and riveting. What more can you ask for?

Myself, I’m starting the editing… but may just head off to Snowdonia to pick up a kitten tomorrow - weather permitting.

eeeep! i had better get reading! i need a day of no distractions to get into book two…or a very early night!
Just finished ‘The Coming of the King’; and I’m sitting here entranced by the whole Rome series and its breakdown of the creation of Christianity. As a non-practicing ‘Agnostic’ (I only play the games), I sincerely appreciate your interpretation of Josephus, and the role Saul of Tarsus played.
I think I might have a breakdown before your next books in the series reach me.

So glad you enjoyed them all… ‘The Eagle of the Twelfth’ will be out in May… so not long now to hold your breath! (tho’ I moved away from Christianity for that one - had said what I needed and wanted to say)
